Why so, according to him, Press Law No. 40/1999 mandates that press companies must be incorporated and verified in the Press Council. Journalists must also take the journalist competency test (UKW) or UKJ.
"So the public should know which press companies are actually registered and which journalists are breaking the law," he explained.
Furthermore, the Editor-in-Chief of Lampung Post explained that press companies and journalists must comply with all regulations of the Press Law, Code of Ethics and other Press Regulations. Moreover, the Press Council in handling press dispute cases has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, and the Supreme Court.
"If it has been verified in the Press Council and journalists have taken competency tests will facilitate the Press Council, the police and judges to resolve press disputes that rely on Law No. 40/1999," he said.
