Jakarta, bidiktangsel.com – The Ministry of Communication and Informatics and Siberkreasi, together with the Solidarity Action Organization of the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet Era (OASE-KIM) initiated the activities of Women Increasingly Digitally Capable as part of the National Digital Literacy Program which aims to improve the digital literacy of Indonesian women.
The Women's Increasingly Digital Event will be held on March 16, 2022 and carries the theme "Check First, Check Now, To Be Protected From Hoaxes". This online activity presents three well-known speakers in the digital literacy movement, including Nicholas Saputra (Public Figure), Eko Septiaji (Mafindo), and Prita Laura (Ex-Journalist / Communication Practitioner).
Hoaxes as a Digital Threat
Of Indonesia's 273.9 million people, about 200 million currently have internet access. The Internet makes it easy for us to get millions of streams of information by just wiping our fingers.
But based on research conducted by Katadata Insight Center in 2021, 11.9% of respondents admitted that they are still spreading hoaxes (an increase of 0.7% from 2020), and the majority of them spread hoaxes because they share information without considering whether the information is accurate or hoax.
"The various digital literacy trainings we provide are based on 4 main pillars, namely digital prowess, digital culture, digital ethics, and digital mandate. Until 2021, this digital literacy program has managed to reach more than 12 million people in 514 districts / cities in 34 provinces throughout Indonesia," said Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, Director of Aptika Kekominfo.
The Role of Women in Digital Literacy
Interestingly, the 2021 National Digital Literacy Index Survey revealed that the percentage of women who use the internet turned out to be higher than men, at 56.6%. The figures show that Indonesian women have gained access to technology and are now undergoing migration and digital transformation.
Furthermore, according to the 2021 National Digital Literacy Index Survey, the main reference used to clarify hoaxes other than the internet itself is family members. Therefore, mothers, wives, daughters, even grandmothers have a very crucial role in keeping other family members from being deceived by the wave of hoaxes.
"Women play a role in shaping the character of the nation. Women not only build themselves and their families, but also build society and country. A family and a nation will become strong and empowered if the women in it are also strong and intelligent. Therefore, women must be adaptive to increasingly dynamic information technology and take advantage of existing opportunities to develop themselves and contribute to the process of realizing indonesia digital nation," semuel said.
