Jakarta, bidiktangsel.com – PT PLN (Persero) collaborated with the French Development Agency (AFD-Agence Française de Développement) to develop the Bayu Power Plant (PLTB) with a total estimated capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) in Banten.
In addition to strengthening the reliability of electricity supply, the environmentally friendly generation project also supports the achievement of the renewable energy mix (EBT) target of 23 percent by 2025, the fulfillment of Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2030 and net zero emissions in 2060.
The development of Banten PLTB will increase EBT generating capacity in achieving energy mix targets and reducing carbon emissions.
Pln President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained, for the initial stage PLN has conducted a Pre-Feasibility Study (Pre-FS) of this PLTB development in the Pandeglang region. The potential for managed wind in this region reaches 350 MW. As the first phase, PLN will build a PLTB with a capacity of 200 MW.
“This is one of our commitments in achieving energy mix targets that are also in line and reducing global emissions, where the Banten PLTB has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 540 thousand tons of CO2 per year,” said Darmawan.
Darmawan explained that work on the project will begin this year. The target is in 2025 that pltb will be fully operational. “We completed the Pre-FS in 2020 yesterday. This is one of the pilots of the first PLTB development project in Java Bali so this project is very important,” said Darmawan.
AFD often cooperates with Indonesia in encouraging the creation of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia. In collaboration with PLN this time, AFD will help PLN by providing technical assistance in the form of feasibility study and capacity building of PLN for relatively new technology, in the form of a partnership agreement for Banten Wind Farm Power Development, as one form of contribution to the energy transition in Indonesia.
“This cooperation not only prepares PLTB to run optimally but also prepares PLN’s human resources to increase capacity by data transfer from AFD,” said Darmawan.
Until 2021, the installed capacity of PLTB in Indonesia reaches 131 MW or 0.2 percent of the energy mix. The target in 2025 with the entry of banten pltb, the level of EBT mix, especially in the wind utilization sector, can increase by 7.7 percent.
AFD Director General Remy Rioux said, “Through this support, we will support PLN that pltb projects can be prepared in the right way including mitigation of potential environmental, social and technical risks using best practices”
He also said, “This study will be part of the preparation of infrastructure projects that are being considered for financing by the AFD, along with other European Institutions partners if needed”. (Red)
